TOLLY FIVE
5 yr old, 16.2 bay gelding

Tolly Five is a big boned, hunky, beautifully balanced 5 yr old, 16.2 hand gelding with a big walk, a lovely, ground-covering trot, and a scopey uphill canter. Extremely smooth and comfortable gaits, possibly in the top three of 'most comfortable horses we've ever ridden'. Tolly has just been started under saddle. He is walk-trot-canter on loose reins, just learning his leads, and working on bending, transitions, changes of direction, and cavaletti. He is showing wonderful natural balance, steadiness and suppleness at all three gaits. He's an easy, sweet, uncomplicated horse to ride who has SO MUCH talent and natural 'rideability' that you can't wait for each next chance to get on him. We don't push him-he offers everything by himself. He's not snarky, grumpy, or uptight, learns quickly and without a fuss, is always willing, and is a delightfully satisfying horse to train.

With a bit of basic mileage and consistent training, Tolly has the kindness, character, and athleticism to be eminently suitable as an amateur or junior's dressage, hunter/jumper or 3-Day horse, or to pilot a rider to the A levels of Pony Club.

In Tolly's first free-jumping sessions he has shown GREAT scope over fences, and we love his calm approach and beautiful style. We would like to find him a rider who is a match for his sweet temperament: someone sensitive-but-calm, as he is, who will take the time to bring him along to his full potential. Tolly does NOT require an advanced rider, but we do want him to have a rider with enough experience to bring along a green horse.

Tolly is an 'A' Circuit caliber diamond-in-the rough prospect. Although everyone who meets Tolly immediately assumes, because of his looks, his talent, and his temperament that he is full warmblood, he is actually a 3/4 Thoroughbred direct grandson of one of the greatest Thoroughbreds of the 20th century, the legendary Triple Crown Winner, and 1978 Eclipse Horse of The Year winner, Affirmed. Through his dam's side Tolly is 1/4 Appaloosa, and as such is registered and papered with the APHA, although his 'spots' are limited to a few white hairs along his back.
