TANGO
16.1 hh, 6 yr old gelding ![]() ![]() TANGO is a beautiful, and beautifully put-together, six and a half year old gelding who is a total gem of a horse. Lovely, personable, curious, sweet, steady, sensitive, intelligent and tolerant--he's a horse who likes to hang out with you, follow you around, come in to work, be in the middle of things. He's a horse you look forward to riding-no issues, no quibbles, smart enough to understand absolutely anything you challange him with, and self-confident enough to be tolerant of rider-errors.
Tango is a Thoroughbred/Quarterhorse cross who came out with the best of both sides and a good bit extra. He has a mellow, easy going temperament combined with an engine and a suppleness that makes him delicious to ride. Good bone, and all-over good conformation from the tip of his very pretty nose, through his strong topline, powerful hind-end and straight legs to the end of his beautiful tail. Great big, round, hard feet, no soundness or health issues or vices, and an uphill, naturally round and balanced way of going that makes him easy to relaxedly hack on loose reins or to ride in a frame.
Tango was raised amid vast numbers of sheep on a working farm, surrounded by tractors, mowers, ATV's, and a lot of baa-ing. His first job was as a trail horse, where he packed in many miles of mountain trails, crossed rivers and streams, went up and down cliffs, jumped fallen trees, happily followed along with his nose in the rear end of the horse in front of him, and occasionally stood tied to trees all night, horse-camping. At five, Tango received his basic formal training, learning on-the-bit, bending, basic lateral work, and flying changes. Tango has done a little bit of everything, and nothing to excess-perhaps the reason for his lovely temperament and disposition.
Tango is working now just between a solid Training level and a beginning First level dressage (with nice flying changes thrown in-he has a natural aptitude for them), and just beginning his education over fences. He's easy to train, and good-minded--as soon as he learns a job himself he is willing to attempt it with a greener rider, a trait we find priceless. He also has no leap-buck-bolt-freak-out button--he tends to take things nicely in stride-literally and otherwise. ![]() Over fences (cavaletti and crossrails until he's well-versed in the business, but with the ability to be a solid, fancy, 3'+ competition caliber hunter with further training) Tango is showing lovely natural jumping form-an eye for a distance, tight, even knees and a beautful, round, smooth style over the fences. Due to Tango's lack of 'heavy' mileage (he has a moderate amount of experience going places, being ridden in different arenas and seeing new things--takes it all in stride-- but has never been shown) we consider him still in the 'green' category. He is ready for an intermediate rider, junior or adult, to bring up through the dressage levels, to bring up through the eventing levels (he would be an incredible amount of fun-he doesn't blink at banks, water, etc) or for the intermediate rider looking for a sane, sound, hunter/pleasure/trails mount. TANGO is offered for sale for $6900. Video footage of Tango is available on our 'Videos' page.
