LONDON
16.2+, 4 yr old Gelding ![]() ![]() LONDON is a tall, hunky, handsome and VERY powerful just-turned-four-year-old gelding who is a very BIG 16.2+: he is big-boned, big-footed, big hearted, a giant sweetheart with long dark eyelashes and very quiet eyes and so much power that he sometimes surprises himself and quite often surprises us as well with his athleticism.
London is JUST starting his training-about 30 days under saddle, working now on canter departures, basic changes of direction, 20 meter circles and big figure eights, nothing fancy, all the basics. He has his voice commands down, happily stops on a dime at a whisper from any speed, still makes as many square circles as he makes round ones, but always tries his hardest, understands 'forward', accepts the bit beautifully and works in very well-balanced, uphill and forward frame. He has a sweet, easy-going temperament under saddle, is never nutty and never hot, and has a laid-back outlook on life in general that predisposes him to more sanity than the average horse. He also has a nice engine, a buttery soft mouth, and gives a 100 percent work-effort every time he steps in the ring. But certainly what is most striking about London is his POWER. In every way. When he steps under with his hind end and puts himself in forward gear you feel like you're covering the 200 ft long side of the arena in three giant balanced strides of canter, and his forward trot has some serious oomph in it. He has just started going over cavaletti and has jumped his first crossral under saddle, but regardless of his extreme greeness you feel like any obstacle in front of you would be problemless --menatlly and physically--for him to clear. Indeed, free-jumping loose in the ring he needs no effort whatsoever at 3' --he just picks his knees up tighter and takes things in quiet, unconcerned stride.
London, still growing (he turned four on May 15th, and has, just in the past two months, put on another quarter inch), still needs to be considered a total baby. He is very well behaved (clips, bathes, ties, trailers, etc etc) and well meaning, and he is a good, good boy, but is he is also as green as grass. He is not ready to be handed over to a green rider-he is too inexperienced himself. But he does have the makings, the mind, and the innate steadiness to be a hugely fun, talented, amateur event horse, low-level jumper, or amateur dressage/trail horse with further training. ![]() London was born and raised in the high desert country of eastern Oregon to a tall Percheron dam and an unknown (but obviously talented) ranch horse sire. He's tough as nails- totally healthy, hearty, remarkably weather-proof, and built to stay sound. He has rock hard black feet (no shoes necessary whatsoever, no matter what he's ridden, or turned out, on), straight legs, solid conformation, and excellent bone and muscleing.
London is as uncomplicated and easy to train as any baby horse could be-and we sincerely want him to stay that way. So he requires a rider good enough to continue his training, to show him the ropes gently, and to introduce him to the world Out There, of which he has very little experience. He has NOt been there and he has NOT done that. But he is totally sane, honest, sweet, forthcoming, kind, and has an innately endearing teddy-bear quality that is a lovely balance to his size and power. ![]() London is offered for sale for $5000.
