Kestrel
6 yr old, 16.2 TRAKEHNER mare   
Kestrel is a beautiful and extremely talented 16.2 hand, 6 year old, dark bay Trakehner mare. Kestrel is elegant, big-bodied and uphill with correct conformation and the epitomy of style - refined, feminine features, beautiful head, neck and topline, straight legs, and superb feet.Kestrel is registered and branded, and entered in the Trakehner Main Mare Book. She is out of the imported 16.2 dam, Kassiana, by the imported stallion Haensel. Kestrel was bred at four and started at five after the birth of an exceptional daughter, a black bay Trakehner filly with beautiful movement. Kestrel has expressive, reaching, wonderfully rythmical movement. Her quality and the quality of her pedigree is apparant with every ride: she's a horse of enormous intelligence, easy to handle, good natured, and always willing. She has a very good walk, a floating, rythmical trot, and a big, smooth, scopey canter stride.  Under saddle Kestrel is sensible, light, supple and very soft, yielding and sensitive to leg and hand but not over-sensitive and not spooky or hot. She is consistent, patient and has an engine that never quits. She wants to work and meets you at the gate, ears up, when she sees you coming. Kestrel is working at a solid training level dressage, beginning 1st level. The few times she's been asked for flying changes in a corner, she generally does them, easily and without a thought. She was started over fences in late May, and is presently schooling 3' courses. Kestrel is naturally brave to the jumps, with an 'I am fearless' attitude, coming down to everything straight, forward, steady and focused. On the first trail ride of her life, in typical Kestrel-fashion, she plunged with great joy chest deep into the nearest river and wanted to stay there playing for hours. In the barn Kestrel is a character with a sense of humor. She does not kick, bite, or do other nasty mare-things, and she is just opinionated enough to make you laugh. She loves all other mares, tolerates geldings and stallions if they know their place, but prefers people to everyone else. She is wonderful for the blacksmith, great with children, and unfailingly astonished by the farm donkey. She will do absolutely anything for a treat, including climb into your lap (although we do try to discourage that).  Kestrel has unlimited athletic talent to go in any direction, with lovely movement for dressage, or the jumping scope and brave, bold heart for serious 3-Day eventing or jumper competition. Kestrel has no soundness issues and no vices; she is well-loved, well-started, and used to children and pets under foot. She has an easy-going personality, and is affectionate and always sweet to handle. She has one cosmetic blemish: a group of small bumps under her tummy, which she received in an incident as a three-week old foal.
