VIENNA'S GOLD-SOLD-
4 yr old, 15.3 Lipizzan x gelding ![]() ![]() We are very proud to introduce Vienna -- our beautiful, lovely-minded, golden four year old. Vienna has excellent conformation (straight legs, very nicely set set shoulder and neck, a strong hind end and fabulous feet-please don't ask us how his feet are-they are AS GOOD AS IT GETS. Rock hard, symmetrical, soles as tough as nails-and he works six days a week barefoot. We would clone his feet for every other horse around, if we could). Vienna has an obvious natural talent for dressage, but he also has the laid back temperament for trails/pleasure riding, and the easy jumping scope for mid-level eventing. Vienna is innately polite and in every day life quiet enough for children to do all his leading, bathing, tacking, warm-up, etc. He's a good boy, through and through.
Vienna was started under saddle with the basics as a three yr old last fall for a month, given the winter off to play, and started back into training in April. He is working currently at training level dressage, w-t-c on the bit, practicing his transitions, and beginning shoulder-in and leg-yielding. Under saddle he's steady-minded and solid, rarely spooks (his occasional 'eeks!' are of the stop-and-look variety), and he learns easily and without fuss, showing a definite talent for collection. He gives a lovely round feel to rein and seat, with a nice natural steadiness in the bridle and with very smooth uphill gaits (easier to sit than post). He is, all-the-way-around, even with his tender age and total green-ness, a great pleasure to ride.
Because of Vienna's age, good mind and very sensible behaviour, we tend to ride him as much outside the arena as in it. His usual daily routine every day starts off with fifteen or twenty minutes of walk-trot-canter riding in open pasture or field, or down the grassy alleys, which he greatly enjoys, and then fifteen minutes or twenty minutes of arena work to finish. Vienna is just starting over fences, so his work in the arena is interspersed once or twice a week with trotting/cantering low courses, and gymnastics to 3'. His attitude to the jumps is calm, happy and brave. He'll canter or trot down to anything on loose reins. He doesn't look twice, doesn't make a fuss, and doesn't over-jump, just picks his spot by himself and canters on. Because of his age we keep the jumping very low and light, but Vienna's particular mind-set (AND his sure-footedness, AND his good balance, AND his uphill gallop stride) makes us think he could be, as well as a superb dressage prospect for any level, an ABSOLUTELY cool horse to bring along for eventing. We love Vienna's quality, his ease with training, and his mind. But most of all, we love his gentleness. He's a quiet and easy-going soul. He doesn't hurry. He's NEVER 'hot'. He's inexperienced with just about everything, but also calm and willing. In scary and new situations he doesn't tune you out, but looks to you for help and then follows your lead with confidence.
![]() Vienna went to his first dressage show in May, showed at Intro A and B with a 65% score for second in his first class, and a 65.5 % score for a first place in his next. He was a star. He is currently ready to solidly show Training Level and is schooling all 1st level work easily and well. What we would like for Vienna is an adult or junior who is experienced enough top understand that he's a baby, who doesn't mind holding his hand when a hand is needed, and who has enough experience wih a green horse to take him onward and upward in his training. Someone Who likes to have fun, who trains with variety, and who, despite Vienna's good nature, will not condemn him solely to a life of voltes. Vienna is 1/4 Lipizzan, 3/4's APHA. He is eligible for registration with the ABRA. Video footage of Vienna under saddle is available on our VIDEOS page. Vienna is offered for sale for $6000. |
