CALVEDOS - SOLD
5 yr old, 16+ Gelding ![]() ![]() CALVEDOS is a pretty darned wonderful knight-in-shining-armor type of steed (were he midnight black he would be priceless) who, when you canter on him, makes you think of great deeds, fields of glory, sunlight and misty hills. Calvedos has the delightful personality of a very large teddy bear. He is patient, calm, tolerant, sane, loving, sweet, furry, big-boned, great-footed, and a just a wee bit cautious (he retreated to a safe distance when we met a bear on foot, but then politeley waited nearby to see if it would eat us, or if would we need perhaps a ride home). For 'good nature' and sweet temperament we give Calvedos a faultless '10'. Calvedos was started under saddle as a three and a half yr old. Then, due to his owner's financial circumstances, he remained without further training until we purchased him in fall at age 5. He is now working at walk-trot-canter and starting over fences. If ever a horse needed to 'make up time' it couldn't be a better pick than Calvedos, who stands at the gate sadly all day if we don't come to fetch him, and who is always saying 'Hey, I'm ready! I'm here!' Look at ME!' if we ride by with the other horses first. Calvedos has a fair walk, a really COOL trot with very good suspension and a big reach, and a seriously WONDERFUL canter. You just love to watch this horse gallop across huge green fields. He has a great, big, airy stride and covers a huge amount of ground, and yet, even totally green, collects himself in the ring with no effort so that you feel like you are cantering on air. Calvedos is one neat horse, and you know it the minute you meet him. Calvedos is the type of horse who is a 'push' under saddle (ride with a dressage whip) but develops an engine as you go. His walk is slow, his trot is medium-speed, and his canter is so wholly perfect and delightful that nothing further need be said. Everything about Calvedos is uphill and naturally balanced-nobody has to teach him that. Now all he needs to be a star is mileage. And a lot of muscle. Calvedos has no trail experience to date (except the bear); we'll let you know how he does next week. We're going in the other direction. Almost nothing spooks him (except the bear) so we're looking greatly forward to it. So far Calvedos is unphased by jumps-he is tight knee-ed, correct, careful, uphill, and very capable, with just enough 'look' at the fence that he makes a good effort. We look forward to seeing how his natural abilities over fences develop, but we already think that Calvedos, with his brain and gallop stride and 'whatever you ask of me' style, will be a fabulous, winning, mid-level event (or dressage) horse with further training. Calvedos is offered for sale for $5500. Pics and video footage of Calvedos will be updated shortly. |
